Send a STEP/STP model with a PDF drawing where available, or a dimensioned drawing for a simple part. Include quantity and whether this is a prototype, replacement or repeat order.

Material & Application

Specify the grade and color if known. Describe operating temperature, load, sliding contact, chemicals and any food-contact or material documentation requirements.

Dimensions & Delivery

Mark critical fits, holes, flatness, surface finish and inspection conditions. Include delivery country, postal code and required arrival date.

Tolerances and timing are confirmed for your part. UHMW-PE dimensions can change with temperature and machining conditions. Highlight the features that matter to assembly so the accepted tolerances, inspection requirements and delivery plan can be agreed in the quotation.

Material Selection and Machining Considerations

Temperature & Fit

Account for thermal expansion in long parts, close fits and mounting arrangements. Provide operating and inspection temperatures when dimensions are critical. A blanket tolerance is not appropriate for every UHMW-PE geometry.

Load & Wear Conditions

Consider sustained load, creep, sliding speed, abrasive material and the mating surface. Wear life and friction vary with the grade and application; a material-family comparison alone cannot predict service life.

Chemicals & Environment

Name the chemical, concentration, temperature and exposure time. For outdoor, electrical or food-contact use, specify the additional requirements so the proposed grade and documentation can be reviewed.

Joining is a separate engineering requirement. If your part requires bonding, welding or a large assembly, describe the joint and loading conditions. UHMW-PE is difficult to bond; confirm a suitable joining method rather than assuming a general plastic process will work.

Specify the Grade and Documentation You Need

UHMW-PE, UHMWPE and PE-UHMW refer to the material family. The exact grade, additives and supply documentation matter to performance and application suitability.

Industrial Requirements

State the required material standard or trade grade if specified on your drawing. For anti-static, UV-stabilized, conductive or detectable material, identify the required property or test method. Color alone does not establish these properties.

Food Contact or Other Regulated Use

Specify the applicable requirement and the material documents you need before ordering. Food-contact suitability is grade-specific. Medical use needs a separate assessment; virgin resin or a white color alone does not establish medical suitability.

UHMW-PE Machining Questions

What tolerance can you hold on my part?

It depends on the feature, part size, geometry and material grade. Mark critical fits and inspection conditions on the drawing. Accepted tolerances and any limitations are confirmed in the quotation; one tolerance should not be assumed across all features.

Can I request a prototype or small quantity?

Include the quantity you need, even for a single prototype. Minimum quantity, setup costs and production feasibility are reviewed for the specific part, material and process.

What if I do not have a STEP file?

A dimensioned PDF drawing may be enough for a simple part. For a replacement, include photographs and the dimensions that control assembly. If geometry is incomplete, any additional drawing work and its scope must be agreed before manufacture.

Is the material suitable for food contact?

Specify the applicable food-contact requirement and requested documents. Suitability must be confirmed for the actual grade and application; it cannot be inferred from the UHMW-PE name, virgin resin or color alone.

How long will production and delivery take?

Include the required arrival date and destination. Timing depends on material availability, quantity, geometry, inspection and transport. Production and shipping assumptions are confirmed with the quotation.
