PPS (Polyphenylene Sulfide) Rod – Natural & Black

Unfilled PPS round rod for machined parts that must stay dimensionally stable under heat, chemicals and moisture. PPS is a semi-crystalline high-performance plastic with very low water absorption and inherent flame resistance. It is a cost-effective step up from POM, PA or PET when temperatures or chemical exposure become too demanding, and a lower-cost alternative to PEEK for many static parts.

• Colors: natural (beige) and black
• 500 mm length: Ø10, 12, 15, 20, 25 and 30 mm
• 200 mm length: Ø35, 40, 45 and 50 mm

Why engineers choose PPS

• Very good chemical resistance – no known solvent dissolves PPS below about 200 °C; resists most acids, bases, fuels and hot water
• Extremely low moisture uptake, so machined dimensions stay stable
• Good electrical insulation and inherent flame resistance
• Low creep and good stiffness at elevated temperature

Note: unfilled PPS is stiffer and less tough than PA or PEEK, and natural-colored PPS is sensitive to UV light – choose black for parts exposed to sunlight.

Typical applications

Pump and valve components, chemical processing parts, electrical insulators and connector bodies, bushings and guides in hot environments, test and assembly fixtures, and parts for semiconductor and vacuum equipment.

Machining tips

• Use sharp carbide tools and moderate feeds; avoid sharp internal corners on load-bearing parts.
• Support thin walls during clamping – PPS is rigid and can chip if over-stressed.
• Dry machining or water-based coolant both work well.
